Enjoying the Experience and Traveling (3)
One of the most important things I learned is the importance of the “little things” we carry with us each day. Yes, personal belongings make life nicer and to some extent easier, but I don’t remember the outfit I wore ten years ago. I do remember the little girl in the bright red skirt and crisp white blouse who came with her class to dance for my colleagues and me in a city in Ecuador. She twirled and smiled into the night. —Karin, The Nature Conservancy
As a woman who has traveled to nearly eighty countries, I have some advice. Never underestimate the value of a great pair of black pants! All you need is a few colorful blazers, and no one will realize that you’ve worn the same pants three times on one trip.
Once, while visiting seven East European cities in three weeks, I made the mistake of putting all my “tops” in one suitcase and all my “bottoms” in another. Of course, one suitcase didn’t arrive until I was in the third country on the trip. I never made that mistake again! —Joanne, USAID
